A message from Ryan’s Reach
First, you have our prayers for recovery advances for your loved one. We know and appreciate how this will impact not only an individual life, but those family members and friends who are called on to assist in the recovery.
Secondly, never give up. Despite the common myth that after a first year there is little chance for improvement; do not believe this. Through our years of involvement with this community, we have witnessed recovery far beyond expectations, even years later.
What follows is a discussion of what one might do or think immediately after an incident and during the recovery process. We hope you will find our very limited initial comments of some benefit.
Most importantly, the following discussion provides information on various benefits available to a person after becoming disabled. We have found this to be a very confusing area. Far too often one learns too late what benefits are available and what should be applied for. An example of common confusion is with areas such as SSDI (disability) and SSI (Supplemental income). Another is with Medicare versus Medi-Cal.
We hope our discussion and outline will be of great assistance to you. Providing this information, in a manner that should be clear and concise, is a fulfillment of one of our purposes.
